- Simply use the same recipe and place all ingredients in a slow cooker.
- Then cook the ingredients uncovered on low for 10 to 12 hours.

Can You Can This Sugar Free Tomato Ketchup?
No, I do not recommend canning this no sugar homemade ketchup. It makes a small batch of two cups of homemade ketchup, so it’s not enough to can anyway. This recipe hasn’t been tested for pH, and tomatoes are a borderline low acid food. The vinegar may not be enough to get the pH within the safe range.
You can, however, freeze this recipe for homemade ketchup. It freezes well for up to six months.
You could also follow safe canning directions to can tomatoes to use to make the best sugar free ketchup recipe later. You can also freeze tomatoes to use later for a fresher taste. This allows you to make homemade ketchup with fresh tomatoes even when tomatoes aren’t in season.

This sugar free homemade ketchup is a base recipe, and you can modify it to suit your taste. Try one of the following when you make your tomato ketchup recipe:
- Substitute the monk fruit for stevia, coconut sugar or your favorite sugar substitute. You may need to make adjustments. I recommend adding less sweetener and letting it simmer and then adding more to taste.
- This recipe calls for red wine vinegar. You can also use balsamic vinegar, distilled white vinegar or apple cider vinegar for a different flavor.
- Add honey, BBQ sauce, or sriracha for a different flavor.
- You can also add more or less of the spices to adjust for your taste.
Sugar Free Homemade Ketchup Ingredients
To make the best sugar free ketchup, you will need:
- Ripe tomatoes
- Olive oil
- Garlic cloves
- Granulated monk fruit sweetener
- Red wine vinegar
- Fine ground sea salt
- Smoked paprika powder
How to Make A Sugar Free Ketchup Recipe
1. Pour a large drizzle of olive oil into the pan. Heat a saucepan over medium heat on the stovetop.
2. While the pan heats, prep the vegetables by finely mince the garlic using a knife or garlic press. Then dice the onions and chop the tomatoes. (There’s no need to peel the tomatoes.)
3. Once the saucepan is hot, add the minced garlic to the olive oil. Heat while stirring, until fragrant, one to two minutes.
4. Now add the diced onion to the saucepan. Stir while heating. Cook for several minutes, until the onion is translucent.
5. Next, add the chopped tomatoes to the saucepan with the garlic, onion, vinegar and paprika. Simmer for 20 minutes, then add the monk fruit and sea salt to taste.
6. Simmer the ingredients an additional 10 minutes, or until the ketchup has reduced by half. If it’s too watery, stir and keep heating until it reaches the desired consistency. It will thicken slightly as it cools.
8. Remove the sugar free homemade ketchup from heat. Then allow to cool slightly. Pour into an airtight container such as a canning jar.
How to Store Healthy Homemade Ketchup
Store this healthy homemade ketchup in the refrigerator, in an airtight container, for up to three weeks. (Or 4-5 weeks if using a sterilized mason or pantry jar.) Alternately, you can also store this healthy ketchup alternative in the freezer up to six months.
- 2 lb. ripe tomatoes, chopped
- 1 yellow onion, peeled and diced
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
- 2 Garlic cloves, minced
- ⅓ Cup granulated monk fruit sweetener
- ¼ Cup red wine vinegar
- ½ teaspoon sea salt, fine ground
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika powder
- Heat a saucepan over medium heat. Drizzle olive oil in the pan. Add chopped garlic or use a garlic press to make minced garlic. Heat while stirring until fragrant.
- Chop the onion and add it to the saucepan. Stir while heating until the onion is translucent.
- Chop tomatoes and add them to the saucepan with the garlic, onion, vinegar and paprika. Simmer for 20 minutes then add the monk fruit and sea salt to taste.
- Simmer an additional 10 minutes or until it has reduced by half. If it’s too watery, stir and keep heating until it’s the desired consistency. It will thicken slightly as it cools.
- Use a stick blender to blend until smooth. You can also let it cool and use a food processor or blender. Add more salt as needed.
- Remove from heat and let the sugar free homemade ketchup cool slightly. Then pour into a container.
- Store in the fridge up to three weeks or in the freezer up to six months.
If desired, you can substitute regular granulated white sugar for the monk fruit sweetener.
Balsamic vinegar can also be substituted for the red wine vinegar.
